Spartans Too Much For Gophers

YORK, Pa. - Host York (Pa.) College swept the Goucher College women's volleyball team 3-0 Saturday afternoon at Wolf Gymnasium. Set scores were 25-14, 25-14, 25-12.
- Riley Kocell (Waxhaw, N.C./Cuthbertson) opened the match with a service ace for Goucher (4-17).
- York (10-9) led 8-5 when it used a 5-1 run to go up 13-6.
- Following a Lucy Hendricks (Fort Bragg, Calif./Fort Bragg) kill, York reeled off five straight points to go up 19-8.
- The Spartans scored the first four points of the second set.
- Trailing 10-4, Goucher used a 7-1 run capped by a block by Amel Lightfoot (Columbia, Md./Oakland Mills) and Rachel Chapman (Rochester, N.Y./Churchville-Chili) to tie the set 11-11.
- York responded with seven of the next eight points to go up 18-12.
- Following back-to-back kills by Kailee Turner (Virginia Beach, Va./Kempsville), York used a 7-1 run to build a 10-4 lead.
- After a kill by Olivia DeBiasio (Norristown, Pa./Norristown) stopped the run, the hosts scored six of the next seven points to salt the set and the match away.
- Turner led the Gophers with eight kills, while Hendricks had seven.
- Nicole Kovach (New York, N.Y./Quest to Learn) tallied 22 digs, while Turner and Kocell each finished with 10 assists.
- Goucher returns to Landmark Conference action on Wednesday, hosting Catholic in a 7 pm contest at the Decker Sports and Recreation Center.
