Gophers Compete in Coach Caslin Classic Saturday, Women Finish Second
TOWSON, Md. - The Goucher College cross country teams hosted the Coach Caslin Classic on Saturday, named in honor of longtime Goucher cross country and track and field coach John Caslin, who retired at the end of the 2019 cross country season. The Gopher women's team placed second out of five scoring teams, finishing three points behind Immaculata, who garnered 41 points.
Leading the way for Goucher was freshman Reese Finnigan (Dallas, Texas / Grapevine), who placed ninth overall with a 6K time of 28:03. Katherine Hernandez Guevara (College Park, Md. / Bladensburg) finished in 13th with a time of 28:43, while Avery McEachern (Cincinnati, Ohio / Summit County Day) was 16th with a 29:20.4 effort.
Maria James (Westminster, Md. / Westminster) finished one spot behind McEachern with a time of 30:13.1. Emma Kistner (Woodlawn, Md. / Mount de Sales) finished in 30:55 to place 21st.
Sean Whitfield (Laurel, Md. / DeMatha Catholic) placed 20th in the men's race with an 8K time of 31:06.9. Shawn Pelote (Upper Marlboro, Md. / Bishop McNamara) posted a time of 35:47.7.
Hagerstown Community College won the men's race, sweeping the top five spots.
The Goucher cross country teams return to action Saturday, October 30 at the Landmark Conference Championships hosted by Moravian University.
