Cross Country Opens Season at Baltimore Metro Meet
TOWSON, Md. - The Goucher College men's and women's cross country teams opened the 2023 season by hosting the Baltimore Metro Meet at the Coach John Caslin Cross Country Course on Friday evening. Both the men and women ran 5K races to open the season.
For the women, sophomore Tanise Thornton-Fillyaw placed 21st overall with a time of 19:55.37. She placed 11th among Division III runners, with the 10 Division III runners placing in front of her all coming from defending national champion Johns Hopkins.
First year Imaya Edmonds placed 67th with a time of 23:14.94. Skye Washington ran a 24:23.12 over the 5K course, while Daya Sathyaraj ran a time of 27:04.63.
For the men, first year Jair Smith led the way, coming in 47th with a time of 17:48.79. Classmate Pani Marousis ran the course in 18:24.21, while senior Sean Whitfield posted a time of 18:38.28. Johan Martinez registered a time of 18:51.05.
The Goucher men's teams returns to action next Friday, September 8, competing in the Hood Blazer Blitz at 5 pm. The Gopher women travel to the University of Dallas Invitational on Saturday, September 9.
