Three Gophers Earn All-Landmark Conference Honors at 2017 Meet
Three Goucher College track & field athletes and the Goucher College women’s coaching staff were named to the All-Landmark Conference team following the 2017 Outdoor Track & Field Championships held at Moravian College in Bethlehem, Pa. last weekend.
TOWSON, Md. – Three Goucher College track & field athletes and the Goucher College women’s coaching staff were named to the All-Landmark Conference team following the 2017 Outdoor Track & Field Championships held at Moravian College in Bethlehem, Pa. last weekend.
Sophomore Lexi Stewart (Laurel, Md.) earned three separate honors at the championships, taking home one of the top two spots in all three events. She earned Landmark Conference First Team honors in the 200m dash with a time of 26.15 – a personal best in the event.
Stewart also earned Second Team honors in the 100m dash and the long jump during the weekend. Her time of 12.89 seconds was only .13 seconds behind the leader. She also went on to post the 5th longest jump in school history in the long jump at 5.25m. Only Destiny Phillips has jumped further than Stewart while wearing the blue & gold at Goucher. Her record of 5.78m came during the Swarthmore Last Chance Meet in 2012. Phillips’ jump of 5.71m during the 2012 Landmark Conference Championships still stands as the meet record.
First-year Shalom Omo-Osagie (Baltimore, Md.) earned Landmark Second Team honors after setting a school record in the high jump. Her final jump of 1.52m surpassed Dayna Mizzer’s jump of 1.45m set back in 2008. Omo-Osagie’s previous personal best was 1.42m prior to heading into the championship meet.
The Goucher College women’s track & field coaching staff was named the Coaching Staff of the Year following the championship meet in 2017, leading the Gophers to their highest finish in the meet in team history.
On the men’s side, freshman Ogemdi Chukwu earned Landmark Conference Second Team honors in the 110mH with a time of 15.64. He also went on to score in the 100m hurdles (11.83) with a seventh place finish, and participated in the 4x100 (44.67) and 4x400 (3:43.03) relays taking fourth and fifth place, respectively.
Throughout the entire season he went on to post the eight top times in the 110mH hurdles, with his personal best coming at the Messiah Invitational in April where he ran a time of 15.04.
Chukwu is the first All-Conference honoree for Goucher since the 2012 meet where three Gophers were named to the All-Landmark team.
