Ceribelli And Morton Combine For 38 Points In Loss At Moravian
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Despite holding the lead for nearly 13 minutes in the first half and going into the locker room tied, Goucher College saw Moravian College pull away in the second half of a Landmark Conference men's basketball game on Saturday.
Gabe Ceribelli (Monkton, Md./Hereford) and Dwayne Morton (Waynesville, Mo./Waynesville) each finished with 19 points to pace the Gophers.
Ceribelli went 7-for-13 from the floor 4 of 7 from behind the arc and 1 of 2 from the foul line to finish with 19 points. The senior added six rebounds and three assists. Ceribelli has found double figures in back-to-back games, three times in his last six tilts, 11 times this season and 18 times in his career. The senior has also grabbed at least five boards six times this year. Ceribelli ranks second on the team with 11.2 points per game.
Morton shot 9-for-16 from the floor and made 1 of 3 from behind the arc to finish with 19 points. He has posted double figures in points 16 times this season and recorded at least 19 points in a game on six occasions. Averaging 17.3 points per game in his last six games, Morton leads the team with 14.2 points per game. The junior also had six caroms and three dimes. Morton has grabbed at least five rebounds six times in 2018-19.
Cameron Isaacs (Owings Mills, Md./Randallstown) chipped in 10 points and five assists. The freshman has reached double figures in points 10 times on the year while the five dimes matches his career high he has now set four times.
The contest marks the third game that Goucher College is participating in NABC Coaches Vs. Cancer 3-Point Challenge. Fans can make a donation based on every 3-pointer the Gophers hit or a one-time donation. The Gophers are estimating they will hit 30 from behind the arc in the five games in the month of February. The team hit six treys against Drew on February 2 and four against Elizabethtown on Wednesday. Ceribelli has accounted for nine of the 16 treys in the challenge while Morton has five and Timmy O'Farrell (Davidsonville, Md./Archbishop Spalding) has two. For more information, click here.
Morton gave Goucher its lead on a 3-pointer for a 20-17 lead with 14:31 left in the half to also start a 12-2 run. Morton, who started and capped the spurt, fueled the run with five points. The Gophers held the lead for nearly the next 13 minutes before the Greyhounds tied the game at 44 with 1:45 on the clock. Ceribelli then nailed a trey to tie the game at 47 with 32 seconds remaining in the half to send the teams into the locker room tied at 47.
The Greyhounds took the lead in the second half and never looked back to earn a 93-73 victory.
Pat Goralski (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) added nine points.
Goucher travels to Catholic University of America on Wednesday. Game time is 7 p.m.
