Neumann Pushes Past Gophers in Final Minutes

TOWSON, Md. - Visiting Neumann University closed the game on a 12-4 run to down Goucher College 66-63 in non-conference men's basketball Tuesday night at the Decker Sports and Recreation Center.
- Goucher (1-1) led 14-7 following a three by Darnell Morris Jr. eight minutes into the game.
- Neumann (2-0) tied the game 14-14 before two free throws by Jacob Morgan put the Gophers back in front.
- A conventional three-point play by Morgan with 3:08 on the clock put Goucher up seven, 26-19.
- The Knights pulled back within two, but a Liech Kong layup in the final seconds of the half had the hosts in front 31-27 at the break,
- Neumann scored the first seven points of the second half to go up 34-31 three minutes in.
- A three by Jaden Workman and a basket by Kong pushed Goucher back in front, 36-34.
- Goucher pushed the lead to six, 48-42, on a Morris basket midway through the second half.
- The Gophers held a 59-54 lead after a David Nwankwo basket with 5:15 remaining.
- Neumann scored the next seven points to go up 61-59 with 2:59 on the clock.
- Morgan tied the game on a layup with 2:23 left, but the Knights retook the lead on their next possession.
- After Morris tied the game with 1:46 left, a Bryan Etienne jumper with 1:13 put Neumann in front for good, 65-63.
- Kong forced a tieup at midcourt with nine seconds to go, with Goucher holding the possession arrow down 66-63, but the Gophers turned the ball over on their final possession.
- Morgan paced the Gophers for the second straight game, finishing 5-12 from the floor and 8-9 at the free throw line.
- Kong added 12 points and five rebounds, going 5-12 from the floor.
- Workman, Morris and Darrell Green each chipped in with nine points. Green also added five rebounds.
- Goucher shot 41.5% overall and 16-20 at the free throw line, but was 3-19 from three.
- Neumann, which outshot the Gophers 34-31, shot 45.6% overall, 2-8 from three and 12-20 at the free throw line.
- Goucher is back in action Saturday, making the short trip down to Notre Dame (Md.) for a 6 pm game.
- The Gophers are back home Wednesday, December 4, hosting Moravian at 7 pm at the Decker Sports and Recreation Center.
