TOWSON, MD – Goucher College moves to a 3-4 record (Landmark 0-0) after a close game with the Lions from Bryn Athyn, PA.
Goucher's Pierce Bailey (Miami, FL) scored two goals during the contest, one of which came with 25 seconds left to seal the game for the Gophers. The play was ran with six seconds to go on the shot clock coming out a timeout called by head coach Brian Kelly.
Senior Nate Wilinski (Decatur, GA) had career season high of five groundballs and two caused turnovers. Four other Gophers chipped in with a caused turnover each.
Junior Matt Messerle (Limerick, PA) had 10 saves over the course of 60 minutes.
How It Happened:
- Goucher jumped out to an early lead, outscoring the Lions 4-1 in the first quarter.
- Goucher and Bryn Athyn went back and forth with three goals each, leaving the Gophers in the lead at 7-3 going into the half.
- Bryn Athyn took charge in the third quarter, scoring the only two goals and blanking the Gophers.
- The Lions knotted the game at 7-7 with an early goal in the fourth quarter.
- Senior Jake Ziegler (Buffalo, NY) scored a pivotal goal during the fourth quarter to stop Bryn Athyn's four-goal momentum. He would finish the contest with a goal and an assist.
- Goucher had eight different goal scorers during the contest while the Lions touted four different scorers.
- Senior Ryan Landels lead the Lions in points, finishing the game with four points from two goals and two assists.
- Bryn Athyn's freshman Jesse Frazier had a season-high nine groundballs.
- Freshman goalkeeper for the Lions, Brad DePasquale, had 13 saves out of the 18 shot on goal he faced.
- Bryn Athyn held an advantage in groundballs, 31-24.
