SELINSGROVE, Pa. - Susquehanna University, one of two remaining unbeaten teams in Landmark Conference men's lacrosse play, jumped out to a 7-1 lead after one quarter and eased to a 14-4 win over Goucher College at Sassafras Field on Wednesday afternoon.
Susquehanna (13-2, 7-0 Landmark) scored the game's first four goals before Theo Cook IV got the Gophers (8-7, 2-5) on the board with 5:49 remaining in the first quarter off a pass from Jacob Morgan. The River Hawks scored three more times, including with 0.1 seconds left, to take a 7-1 lead through 15 minutes.
SU scored all three goals in the second and the first three of the second half before Jack McDermott scored an extra-man tally with 2:21 on the clock, with Holden Vance notching an assist.
The Gophers again cashed in man-up as Vance scored from Morgan with 10:29 left. Morgan scored off a Vance assist with 1:45 to go to extend his goal-scoring streak to 21 games dating back to last season.
Susquehanna held a 38-34 shot advantage. Jack Smith made four saves in goal in the first half. Jaden Algarin started the second half and made six saves in 27:02 of action before Josh Steinmiller played the final 2:58 between the pipes for Goucher.
McDermott and Sean Nolan each had two caused turnovers for Goucher, with Nolan now having 96 for his career. Vance and Nolan tied for the team lead with three ground balls apiece.
Goucher is back on the road on Saturday, traveling to Drew University for a 1 pm Landmark Conference contest. The Gophers close out the regular season next Saturday, April 27, at home against Lycoming College at Beldon Field at 1 pm.
