Gophers Take Down Monarchs in Home Opener

TOWSON, Md. - The Goucher College Gophers (1-0 Overall) opened their 2025 season at home against the Methodist Universtiy Monarchs (0-2 Overall). The finished off the non-conference matchup in a 14-9 victory.

• Methodist opened the scoring of the game in the first three minutes of the contest.
• Gianni Karam scored back-to-back unassisted goals within 15 seconds of each other to put the Gophers ahead.
• Karam added another goal on the board just four minutes later off the assist from Tyler May. 
• Methodist added a late goal, with four seconds remaining in the quarter to bring the score to 3-2.

• Karam added his fourth of the game off the face off, with an assist from Jack Shiavone. 
• Milan Temple recorded his first of the season a minute later, putting the Gophers up 5-2.
• Methodist responded with two goals in the span of a minute to bring the Monarchs within one (10:23).
• Kevin Gearhart added a goal for the Gophers off an assist from Temple just over a minute after the Monarchs goal.
• Temple scored his second of the game on the man-up possession, with an assist from Jacob Morgan.
• Gearhart and Karam team up to add another goal for the Gophers, and minute later Karam added his fifth off the assist from Morgan.
• The Gophers led at the half 9-4

• Methodist opens the quarter with a man-up goal from Legg (13:31) who then responds with an additional unassisted goal a few minutes later (9:10). 
• Temple adds another to the board off a pass from James Dean to bring the score to 10-6 with 1:05 remaining in the quarter.

• Morgan adds his first of the game four minutes into the final quarter.
• Methodist responds a minute and a half later with an unassisted goal from Moore.
• Morgan responds with another unassisted goal (5:24) to put the Gophers ahead by five.
• The Monarchs capitalize on the man-up possesion just 40 seconds later.
• Temple and Dean both add goals off an assist from Morgan
• The Monarchs recorded the final goal of the contest off the faceoff with 1:39 remaining.

• Four Gophers had a multi-goal showing with Karam leading with five and one assist. 
• Morgan led the Gophers with seven points (2 goals, 4 assists).
• Goucher outshot Methodist 44-42 but Methodist held the advantage winning 20-27 faceoffs. 
• Jack Smith played the entire game, recording 12 saves off the 21 shots he faced. 
• Six Gophers caused a turnover in the contest, with Nick Pusey and Sean Nolan leading the team with two each. They each collected two ground balls as well.
• David Vucci and Mason Bowler each had three ground balls in the game.

• The men travel to face McDaniel University on Saturday, February 22nd for a 12pm start.
• They return home to face Hood College Wednesday, February 26th for a 6pm start on Beldon Field.
