Dominant First Quarter Leads Gophers to Road Victory Over Neumann

ASTON, Pa. - The Goucher College Gophers (3-2 Overall) traveled to face the Neumann University Knights (2-3 Overall). A strong first quarter, combined with a strong defensive effort to hold off the Knights in a 17-11 non-conference win.

• The Gophers opened the scoring less than two minutes into the game, with goal from Tyler May following an assist from Milan Temple.
• Neumann responded a minute later, to tie the game, tallying their only goal from the first quarter. 
• Kevin Gearhart added two in the first quarter, his first unassisted (9:33), and his second off a Temple assist (6:52).
• On the man up opportunity, Scott Tayman punched one past the goalie from a Jacob Morgan assist.
• May added two additional unassisted goals, giving him three total in the opening quarter.
• Morgan added the only other goal of the first quarter, on the man advantage (2:21). 

• Gianni Karam opened the scoring of the second quarter with a goal with 10:54 on the clock, with Jack Schiavone collecting the assist.
• Two and a half minutes later, Temple added another goal, putting the Gophers up eight. 
• Neumann responded with two goals of their own. The first came on the man up opportunity.
• The Gophers led at the half 9-3.

• Similar to the first two quarters, the Gophers open the scoring in the second half with Milan and May teaming up for another goal.
• The Knights added another to their total, with 12:14 remaining in the half to bring the score to 10-4. 
• Karam scores the next two for the Gophers. The first off an assist from Temple and the second from Morgan.
• Neumann added back-to-back goals just 42 seconds apart. 
• May finishes his fourth of the game, off a pass from Temple with 47 seconds remaining in the quarter.

• Karam and Temple team up again for the Gophers 14th goal of the game, scoring less than a minute into the final quarter. 
• The Knights respond once again, to cut their deficit back to seven.
• May records another goal with 9:07 remaining in the game.
• Neumann add another set of back-to-back goals, just 25 seconds apart to bring the score to 15-9.
• Temple scores a minute and a half later with the assist from Morgan. 
• The Knights final goals of the game came 40 seconds apart to bring them within five.
• May finished the game with an unassited goal in the final minute.

• May and Temple each had seven points in the contest. May led the Gophers with six goals and one assist, while Temple added three goals and four assists. 
• Jack Smith collected 9 saves, in 50:53, while Josh Steinmiller added 9:07 to his career time, and recorded nine saves.
• Nick Gambone led the team with four caused turnovers, he also scooped up three ground balls. Both Sean Nolan and Smith led the Gophers with four groundballs a piece.
• The Knights outshot the Gophers 40-34. The Knights were held to just three shots in the first quarter.
• David Vucci went 7-29 from the faceoff, while Schiavone went 0-2, but added two caused turnovers and three ground balls.
• Goucher went 24-27 in clears, while Neumann went 18-24.

• The men travel to face Albright on Saturday, March 8th at 1pm. 
• The team returns home to face New England College on Beldon Field on Tuesday, March 11th at 7pm.
