ELIZABETHTOWN, PA. - The Gophers move to 6-4-5 after a tough loss to Elizabethtown College in double overtime. This is the seventh time Goucher was forced into overtime and they conceded their first goal in the run of play since September. After a great performance agaisnt the Blue Jays, Goucher's sophomore goalkeeper Dan Hendry (Lewisburg, PA) leads the Landmark Conference in saves finishing with eight in the game.
The Gophers survivied a tough first series, having to rely on Hendry to make five saves in the first half. However, Goucher was able to catch Elizabethtown on the counter, allowing sophomore Konrad Bulanowski (Philadelphia, PA) to find space, and fire a left footed shot that forced Blue Jay goalkeeper Ryan Sandell into a fine save.
The second half saw a motivated Goucher team continued to defend. Senior Jeremy Hard (Brooklyn, NY) was forced into making key blocks to keep the Gophers in the game. The two teams traded possession with Elizabethtown creating dangerous moments, ending the game with 33 shots, the most Goucher has faced since mid-September.
In the first period, the Gophers defended well, with Junior Scott Mt. Pleasant (Clifton Park, NY) blocking shots and Junior Drew Phillips (Hoosick Falls, NY) sending passes forward. However in the second overtime, Elizabethtown finally broke through when Gilbert Waso found teammate Sam Feeher who put the ball in the top corner. This is the first time Goucher lost in overtime this season.
"We played hard the whole game, it was tough to lose. We worked so hard. We're going to come out even [harder] to beat Scranton and Drew to make it to the playoffs." Scott Mt. Pleasant said after the game.
Goucher's next game is at Scranton University on Saturday (October 22nd) at 3:30pm.
