BALTIMORE, MD. -The Goucher soccer program moved to 6-6-5 overall with a non-conference 2-1 loss to Eastern University on Tuesday, October 25th. This is the first time the Gophers have lost at home on Beldon Field since October of 2015. This was the eighth time that Goucher has entered into overtime this season.
What Happened:
· Eastern, regionally ranked with a 13-3-1 record, scored at 18:06 of the first half to lead 1-0.
· That remained the score until senior captain Ryan Belluch (Reading, PA) scored late in the second half, at 81:48, grabbing his fourth goal of the season, to knot the score at 1-1. Freshman forward Brandon Cohen (Redondo Beach, CA) created a great chance from a cross on the left that found Belluch who shot the ball in the bottom right corner to tie the game.
· Early in overtime, Goucher had an excellent chance to win the game when freshman midfielder Dalton Kraus (Aberdeen, MD) saw his shot cleared off the line.
· In overtime, Goucher was unable to prevent Eastern from scoring at 94:16 in overtime. It was another deflected shot that bounced into the bottom left corner past the Gopher goalie, senior Michael Layer (Columbia, SC).
The Gophers hope to win and go above .500 in their final game of the regular season at home when they compete against Landmark Conference opponent Drew University on Saturday at 3:30pm.
