WESTMINSTER, Md. - In their final match before starting Landmark Conference play on Saturday, the Goucher College men's soccer team fell at McDaniel on Tuesday by a score of 2-0.
With the defeat, Goucher fell to 0-5-1 overall, while McDaniel improved to 4-1-1 with the victory.
On the day, McDaniel got off to a quick start, scoring goals in the seventh minute, then another in the ninth minute on a Goucher own goal. The 2-0 lead held for the Green Terror through the rest of the half, as they went into halftime up by two goals on the Gophers.
In the second half, the Gophers increased the pressure offensively on McDaniel, outshooting the Green Terror by a wide 8-1 margin in the final 45 minutes of action. Unfortunately, Goucher could not find the back of the net on any of their scoring chances, dropping the match by a pair of scores.
Overall, Goucher ended the day with an edge on shots (9-6) and corners (6-3). Junior Brandon Cohen (Redondo Beach, Calif.) led the team in shots in the defeat, taking three on the day (two of which were on goal). McDaniel was led in the win by goalie Aaron Bilbie, who earned the shutout win making five saves, four of which in the second half.
The Goucher College men's soccer team returns to action on Saturday, as they host defending Landmark Conference champion Drew in both teams' Landmark opener. Action gets underway at Beldon Field at 1 p.m.
