FREDERICK, Md. - A goal in each half and three saves from Goucher College junior goalkeeper Ale Sternini led the Gophers' men's soccer team to a 2-0 win at Hood College Wednesday night.
Senior Jonathan Alvarado put Goucher (2-0-1) on the board midway through the first half with his second goal in as many games. He took a pass from sophomore Eian Waples to make it 1-0. The Gophers carried their 1-0 lead over Hood (1-1) into halftime.
Just over 10 minutes into the second half, first year Aquila De Carvalho scored his second goal in as many games to make it 2-0.
Sternini registered three saves for his first shutout of the season and 11th of his career. He is now just two shutouts away from second place on Goucher's all-time shutout list. The Gophers outshot the Blazers 16-6 and held a 7-5 edge in corner kicks. Nick Humphries made four saves in goal for Hood.
Goucher returns home on Saturday, entertaining McDaniel in a 1 pm contest at Beldon Field.
