Alvarado Goal Lifts Gophers to First Win Over Scranton Since 2015

SCRANTON, Pa. - Senior Jonathan Alvarado scored with 10 minutes remaining to break a 1-1 tie and lift Goucher College to a 2-1 Landmark Conference men's soccer victory over the University of Scranton at Weiss Field Saturday afternoon.  It marked the first win over the Royals for the Gophers since 2015.

• Scranton (5-3-4, 2-1-1 Landmark) put a shot on goal in the first minute that was saved by Goucher (5-5-2, 1-3) keeper Ale Sternini.
• Michael Adekanmbi had Goucher's first shot at the four minute mark.
• The Gophers took a 1-0 lead in the 12th minute on Gustave Dalzell's first goal of the season.
• Dalzell collected a loose ball in the box and one-timed it past Royal goalie Ned Van Loan.
• Harryson Jean had a shot for the Gophers in the 20th minute that went wide.
• The Royals tied the game in the 31st minute on a James Mayo goal.

• Scranton had a pair of shots five minutes into the second half.
• The Royals kept up the pressure with several more shots.
• With 10 minutes left, Alvarado collected a loose ball and blasted it from the top of the 18 past Van Loan to the far left post for his third goal of the season.

• Scranton outshot Goucher 14-4 and took nine corner kicks to the Gophers' four.
• Sternini made one save for the Gophers, while Van Loan did not make a save.
• Goucher's win over the Royals was its first since a 1-0 win on the road on October 10, 2015.
• It marked just the fourth win for the Gophers over Scranton in 18 all-time meetings, and the second straight Goucher result.  The two teams tied 0-0 in 2023.
• The win snapped a five-game Goucher slide.

• Goucher returns home after three straight road games Wednesday evening when it host Susquehanna in Landmark action at 7 pm at Beldon Field.
