Alvarado Scores Twice in Senior Day Victory

TOWSON, Md. - Senior Jonathan Alvarado scored twice in his final game in a Goucher uniform as the Gophers downed Wilkes University 2-1 in Landmark Conference men's soccer Saturday afternoon at Beldon Field on Senior Day.
- Goucher's (7-8-3, 2-6-1 Landmark) Tre Byrd put a shot on goal five minutes in that was saved by Wilkes (4-15-1, 1-8) goalie Matthew Conti.
- Three minutes later Gopher keeper Ale Sternini made his first save of the afternoon.
- Just past the 16-minute mark, Alvarado scored when Byrd sent a feed to him to the far left post, which Alvarado knocked home for a 1-0 lead.
- Sternini recorded another save two minutes later.
- Andres Aristimuno put a shot on goal in the 20th minute that was turned aside.
- Wilkes tied the game 1-1 in the 29th minute on a Kendall Heck goal.
- Michael Adekanmbi had two shots on frame in the first eight minutes that were both saved by Conti.
- Conti made a stop on a Rafael Berhanu goal in the 62nd minute.
- With 25 minutes left, Conti made a save on another Adekanmbi bid.
- In the 76th minute, Alvarado, who had just re-entered the game, scored to put the Gophers back in front.
- Alvarado collected a rebound off a long pass into the box off Conti, spun around a Colonel defender, and fired from the top of the 18 inside the left post.
- Conti was forced to make one more save in the 82nd minute.
- Goucher outshot Wilkes 17-5, including 12-2 in the second half. The Colonels took five corner kicks to the Gophers' four.
- Sternini made two saves for Goucher, while Conti recorded eight stops.
- Adekanmbi led Goucher with seven shots.
- The Gophers end the season on a two-game win streak.
- Prior to the game, Goucher honored its seven seniors, Adekanmbi, Alvarado, Byrd, Gustave Dalzell, Fahim Faizy, Will Frasier and Flynn McNally.
- Adekanmbi finishes his two-year Goucher career with 19 assists, tied for third in program history.
