Sept 14th- CARLISLE, Pa.- Goucher saw its 5 game unbeaten streak snapped as it dropped its first game of the year with a tough 3-0 loss to Dickinson in Carlisle, PA on Wednesday night. Following a strong start to the year, the Gophers were unable to stay out of the loss column against the perennial NCAA Tournament participant Red Devils.
The Red Devils struck early as Ward Van de Water scored off an assist from Austin Sumners, 12:35 into the contest. Dickinson stretched the lead to 2-0 before halftime as Kevin Gilbert tallied his first collegiate goal, finishing an assist from Matt Edmonds with just over seven minutes remaining.
The second half saw the Gophers become much more dangerous. Strong opportunities by Drew Phillips, Scott Mt. Pleasant, and Brandon Cohen were thwarted by the Dickinson goalkeeper and defense.
However, as the Gophers pushed forward Dickinson hit back on a counter with Edmonds closing out the scoring with an unassisted goal in the 83rd minute to give the Devils some added insurance.
Goucher fell to 3-1-2 on the season. They travel to Shenandoah University on Saturday for a 7pm game.
