ALLENTOWN, Pa. — Goucher cruised to an 8-1 victory over Muhlenberg in its final match prior to the start of the Landmark playoffs. Aside from the win, which marked eleven straight for the Gophers, head coach Brendan Kincaid and senior Seth Hoesman (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) each tied a program record.
Kincaid matched Rob Hubbard's record of 44 career wins as a head coach, 2000-2005, while Hoesman equaled 59 career singles wins, which was posted by Tim Hannigan from 1997-2001.
- After Hoesman notched his team-leading 20th win of the season, Elliot Diehl (York, Pa./York Suburban) and Jon Yandle matched up in a "battle of the freshmen" at No. 3 singles. Diehl suffered a 6-4 set one loss but took the second set, 6-1, as well as the super tiebreaker, 10-8.
- Jack Hodges (London, England/Shrewsbury School) manned the No. 1 spot for the Gophers (17-4) and earned his 15th win of the season over Mickey Schindler (7-6 (3), 7-5).
- Midori Fujitani (Tokyo, Japan / International School Bangkok (Thailand)) and Britt Shortle (Lake Mary, Fla./Trinity Preparatory School) flourished as both were victors in singles play, 6-0, 6-1, respectively.
- The duo of Derrick Eng and Schindler earned an 8-3 doubles win for the Mules (3-11) — the team's only point of the match.
Goucher takes to its home court on Wednesday at 3 p.m. as the #1 seed in the Landmark playoffs. The opponent has yet to be determined.
