Falk Clears Height That Claims 11 in High Jump

SELINSGROVE, Pa. — Goucher's Doug Falk (Barnegat, N.J./Barnegat) finished in a tie for sixth place in the high jump at today's Susquehanna Open.

The competition started with 19 individuals, but 11 were eliminated when they failed to clear the opening height of 1.73 meters (5'8"). Falk and Stephen Avino from Gettysburg were both successful on their second attempt at that height, but missed on all three tries when the bar was raised to 1.78 meters (5'10").

First place went to Max Mahan from Elizabethtown, who cleared 1.88 meters (6'2").

Goucher's entry consisting of Isaac Jennings (Narberth, Pa./Harriton), Eli Schwartz (Berkeley, Calif./Berkeley), Zachary Byrum (Stafford, Va. / Brooke Point) and Mark Egan (Baltimore, Md./Calvert Hall) placed 10th overall in the distance medley relay. The quartet's time of 11:37.99 is the fifth-fastest in that event in the history of the school's indoor track and field program.

Anthony Lee (Vancouver, Wash./Columbia River) turned in the sixth-best indoor time in program history for 3,000 meters when he was clocked at 9:37.95, good for 17th place. Jennings took 20th place in the 800-meter run, but his time of 2:06.78 stands at No. 8 on Goucher's all-time list for the event.

Today's non-scoring meet was the final tune-up for head coach John Caslin's student-athletes prior to the 2014 Landmark Conference Men's Indoor Track & Field Championships that will be held here on March 1.
