WELLINGTON, FL — Goucher was outscored 7-0 over the
final seven minutes of the first half today, setting the stage for
Trinity (Conn.) to register a 15-5 victory over the Gophers.
By winning, the Bantams (4-0) avenged a 12-9 loss to Goucher last
season in a game in which the Gophers trailed by four at the end of
the first half.
After spotting the Bantams a 4-0 lead today, the Gophers (3-4)
battled back, closing to within 5-2 on a goal by Whitney
Groseclose (Boyce, VA/Mercersburg Academy) with 9:17
remaining before halftime. Jen Calver accounted for three goals and
C.J. Yanofsky had two goals and an assist during the 7-0 run that
enabled Trinity to expand its lead to 12-2 at the break.
Yanofsky finished with six goals and three assists.
Emily Blatter (Lexington, VA/Rockbridge County)
had a hand in four of Goucher's five goals. She picked up one
assist in the first half and then notched two goals and was awarded
an assist on a goal by Sandy Okun (Stevenson, MD/McDonogh
School) in the second half.
