TOWSON, Md. — Goucher trailed York only 1-0 at the end of the opening period this afternoon on Beldon Field, but the Spartans tacked on three more goals in a span of under five minutes in the second half on the way to a 4-0 victory over the Gophers.
The loss snapped Goucher's unbeaten streak at home (9-0-2) against non-conference opponents dating back to 2011.
The only goal of the first half was set up by Clare Chatham, who floated a free kick into the box where Jamie Sokolis was able to head it in.
Chatham was awarded assists on two of the three goals the Spartans (4-2-1) managed to score following halftime. Her corner kick led to a goal by Jenn Lindsay at 56:48 that put her team up 2-0 and she picked up assist No. 3 of the day on a goal by Beth Bunn at 60:54 that closed out the scoring.
In between the goals by Lindsay and Bunn, Elexa Sherman notched the third goal of the contest for York.
Lindsey Puopolo (Glen Arm, Md./St. Timothy's) accounted for five of the seven shots the Gophers (2-4-1) were able to get off.
