LANCASTER, Pa. — Goucher allowed an opponent to score a goal for the first time all season this afternoon. In fact, Lancaster Bible tallied a pair of goals in the opening seven minutes of today's contest, tacked on a third goal before the first half ended and then sewed up a 5-0 victory over head coach Tati Korba's Gophers by putting in two more in the second half.
Remarkably, the Chargers (4-1) managed to score five times even though they took only eight shots the entire contest. Monica Lambertson (3:55) and Bethany Stein (6:26) were responsible for the two goals that had the home team up 2-0 early and then Lambertson picked up an assist on Stein's team-leading sixth goal of the season at 44:05.
The Gophers (2-1-1) outshot their opponent in the second half, 7-4, but the only goals which were scored in the period were by Lambertson at 47:10 on a blast from 25 yards out and by Rachel Kumher at 72:45 on a penalty kick.
Eight different Goucher players got off at least one shot in the non-conference contest in which Kaitlyn Scheuing of the Chargers needed to make six saves in order to keep the Gophers off the scoreboard.
Goucher, which has four games remaining before it takes on Moravian in its first Landmark Conference contest of the season on September 27, returns home to play Rosemont this Saturday on Beldon Field, starting at 4 p.m.
