September 27, 2016 – WESTMINSTER, Md. – In a hard fought game, the regionally ranked Green Terror from McDaniel found a way to squeeze in a goal off a deflection in the 66th minute this afternoon.
Goucher remembers this result all too well after falling to McDaniel 1-0 in the 88th minute last season. Much like last year, the Gophers held McDaniel (5th in the Mid-Atlantic Region) to a 0-0 draw at half, allowing only 1 shot on frame. Goucher came out strong in the second half, getting the ball forward and becoming more of an attacking presence.
The game winning goal came from a shot inside Goucher's own 18-yard-box, deflecting off a defender's foot and landing in the upper corner of the net. Senior goalkeeper Lexi Rudolph came up big in the second half, making two big breakaway saves inside her own box. She totaled 8 saves for the game.
Head Coach Tati Korba had this to say after the game, "Today's game was a character check for us. A Tuesday game falling between two tough conference games can be hard to get up for, and we had a good amount of players resting and out today. We did a great job competing and we look forward to Saturday."
The Gophers (5-3-1) are back at home on Saturday to face conference rival Susquehanna (7-2) at 1:00 PM on Beldon Field.
