TOWSON, Md. – The Goucher Women's Soccer team moves to 6-4-1 after defeating the Widener Pride 4-0 on Beldon Field.
Goucher came out strong, outshooting the Pride 7-1 in the first half. Freshman midfielder Isabel Suazo (Brooklyn, NY) scored her second goal of the season off an end line cross from seniors Stephanie Budrock (Clark, NJ) and Sam Turner (Vineland, NJ) in the 36th minute.
Budrock came through only 2:14 later with a goal of her own after running down a clearance out of the midfield. She beat her defender in the box and found an open back post to make the game 2-0.
Widener brought some force in the second half, putting 14 more shots on the board. Goucher only put 3 shots toward goal with 2 finding the back of the net. Both goals were scored by senior forward Sam Turner. The third goal came in the 74th minute when Budrock played Turner in for a breakaway, where she slotted the ball past the keeper. Turner then found herself 1v1 in the 81st minute, this time under more pressure, but still able to slam the ball into the far post.
Senior goalkeeper Lexi Rudolph (Kensington, MD) came up big tonight in front of goal. She had two saves tipped over the crossbar to keep Widener off the scoreboard.
"I'm happy with our team effort tonight," says Head Coach Tati Korba. "We've been trying some new things and the team did a great job implementing what we've been doing in training. I thought our chemistry up top was much better this game. We have not yet played our best soccer and look forward to more growth for Moravian on Saturday."
The Gophers are back at home Saturday at 1:00 PM to face conference opponent Moravian.
