FREDERICK, Md. - The Goucher women's soccer team lost a tough 2-1 battle after getting on the board early against the Hood Blazers.
The Gophers scored in the 40th minute when sophomore forward Camryn Mackey (Washington, D.C.) slotted a ball through to senior forward Sam Turner (Vineland, N.J.) who blasted the ball into the top corner of the goal.
Turner nearly closed the game with another goal in the second half that was called offside. Hood scored off a corner kick in the 83rd minute when Brittney George found herself wide open on the back post. Goucher controlled the remainder of the second half, but couldn't find momentum to get the ball in the back of the net.
In the first overtime, senior defender Lexi Solazzo (Tolland, C.T.) had multiple shots and chances toward goal, but Hood's goalkeeper kept them in the game.
In the 99th minute, a clearance error by Goucher left Hood forward Erin Scarborough open on top of the box. She took the miscommunication as her opportunity and finished the game in the first overtime period.
Goucher is back on the road this weekend to play the nationally ranked Scranton Royals at 1:00 PM on Saturday.
