TOWSON, Md. - Down 1-0 at the half, the Goucher's women's soccer team (6-7-2, Landmark 0-5-0) came to life in the second half on Beldon Field and beat the Hood College Blazers by a score of 2-1.
The Gophers tied the game midway through the second half on a goal from junior midfielder Christina Yarrish (Hummelstown, Pa.) on a set piece and assist from senior Bri Hite (Port Republic, Md.).
The winning goal came off a shot from junior midfielder Therese Antkowiak-Tassone (Towson, Md.) which was originally saved by the Blazers goalkeeper, but the rebound was left rolling in the box and was rammed home by first-year Syd Benedict (Fort Loudon, Pa.) at 70:38 into the contest.
The Hood goalkeeper, Rachel Knoebel, was under constant pressure in the second half. She had to make 10 saves in the game overall as the Gophers played the final 45 minutes with energy and skill. Goucher outshot Hood for the game 21-10.
Goucher started Erica Bulzomi (Syosset, NY) in the goal for the first time this season. Bulzomi, a first year, registers her first win as a starter.
The Gophers return to action this Saturday when they face off against Landmark Conference opponent Scranton at 1:00 pm.
