WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Finley Lindsey (Gilbert, Ariz./Hamilton) scored with 42 seconds left in the first half to power Goucher College to its third-straight win with a 1-0 victory against Lycoming College in non-conference women's soccer action on Wednesday.
Lindsey became the third Gopher freshmen to score a goal this season when she took feeders from Emerson Jewart (New Cumberland, Pa./Cedar Cliff) and Olivia Chinitz (Brooklyn, N.Y./Parker Collegiate Institute) at the 44:18 mark. It was the first collegiate point for each player in the player.
Goucher has scored four times this season and all four tallies have come off the foot of freshmen. Megan Kelleher (Lafayette, N.J./High Point Regional), the current Landmark Conference Offensive Player of the Week, leads the team with two tallies while Lindsey and Claudia Roller (Tucson, Ariz./Sahuaro) also found the twine this season.
Christina Charikofsky (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty), the current Landmark Conference Defensive Player of the Week, notched her second shutout of the season and the fourth of her career. Her one save came in the 58th minute while Charikofsky and the defense limited Lycoming to five shots on the afternoon.
The Gophers have started the season 3-0 for the second time since joining the Landmark Conference and the first since 2012 when the they won the first seven games of the year.
Goucher returns to action on Saturday when it battles Eastern in the second part of a Beldon Field tripleheader that will also feature the Gophers field hockey and men's soccer team. The women's soccer game is slated for a 2:30 p.m. start.
