MADISON, NJ - Goucher Womens Soccer (1-8-0 overall; 0-1-0 conference) opened Landmark Conference play on the road against the Drew University Rangers (4-3-1 overall; 1-0-0 conference). Despite Goucher scoring first, the Rangers came out on top, finishing the Gophers off 4-1.
The first half kicked off with Drew's offense tallying three shots in the first 15 minutes, requiring sophomore Nia George to make an early save. After a quick pause for substitutions, they added three more shots to their total in the next five minutes. Goucher's offense was able to capitalize after earning a corner kick when sophomore Abby Lee found the back of the net, with an assist from senior Jordan Wood (28:00). The Rangers offense rallied after this, scoring two goals four minutes apart. Drew led at half 2-1.
Ashley Schwartz opened the second half with a shot following the kickoff, which forced Drew's team to make the stop. After this, the offense was all Drew, recording 18 shots in the second half, and two goals as a result.
The Rangers outshot the Gophers 27-2, while they earned 10 corners to Goucher's one. George recorded 11 saves and played 90 minutes in net.
The Gophers continue their road trip on Wednesday, October 1st, which will begin at 7pm. They return home on October 4th for Blue & Gold Weekend, where they will be the first game of the day on Beldon Field at 1pm.
