WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Goucher College women's soccer team (1-11-0 overall; 0-3 conference) traveled to face local Landmark foe, Catholic University (5-6-1 overall; 2-1 conference). A five-goal game from Aponte of the Cardinals propelled Catholic to the dominant 8-0 win.
The Cardinals struck early and often, building a 4-0 lead in the opening half and maintaining control throughout the match. Caroline Aponte led the way for Catholic with five goals, while the Cardinals outshot the Gophers 35-0 on the night.
Goalkeeper Nia George battled in net for Goucher, registering 11 saves in the contest, this marked her fifth double-digit save performance of the season.
Despite the result, the Gophers continued to compete throughout the 90 minutes, limiting Catholic to just four second-half goals and holding strong through multiple corner opportunities.
Goucher continues Landmark Conference play continues this weekend, returning home to Beldon Field on Saturday, October 11, to host Juniata College at 1pm for their Mental Health Awareness game.
