TOWSON, Md. – Junior Soliana Goldrich (Austin, Texas) of track & field and freshman Anthony Scarpola (Baltimore, Md.) of men’s lacrosse have been named the Goucher College Athletes of the Week following their performance for the Gophers.
Goldrich surpassed two personal bests on Saturday at the Greyhound Invitational held at Moravian College. She set her new best time in the 1500m run in Bethlehem, Pa. with a readout of 5:10.88, crushing her previous mark of 5:25.16. She was not done however, dropping three seconds off her 800m run best time, clocking in at 2:38.75. Since the start of the outdoor season, Goldrich has continually improved her time in the 800m run on a weekly basis – starting with a 2:47.77 finish at the 16th Annual Goucher College Track & Field Classic.
Soliana and the Goucher track & field team will spend the week prepping for the Mason-Dixon Invitational held at Gettysburg College on Saturday April 22nd, 2017.
Scarpola was a catalyst for the Gophers, who earned their first Landmark Conference win of the 2017 season over Susquehanna University on Saturday, 10-4. The freshman attack found the twine three times in the game to lead Goucher. He added three groundballs and two caused turnovers to accompany his first hat trick wearing the blue and gold.
Scarpola and the Gophers head to Washington, D.C. to take on the Catholic Cardinals in a Landmark Conference showdown starting at 4 p.m. on Wednesday. In 22 meetings, Goucher is 20-2 against the Cardinals, dropping the last two matchups.
