TOWSON, Md., -- Freshman Ogemdi Chukwu (Paris, France) is the second addition to the 2016-17 All-Goucher Second Team following a record-setting year as a member of the track & field program.
As a participant on both the indoor and outdoor track & field teams at Goucher, Chukwu earned Landmark Conference Second Team honors in three events.
During the indoor season, he placed second in the 60m hurdles (8.66) and 4x200m relay (1:35.54). The 4x200m relay team of Chukwu, Justin Coggeshall, Gunther Wallach and Miles Taylor set a school record in the event at the Landmark Conference championships and took home All-Conference Second Team honors with freshman making up three legs of the relay. Chukwu's time in the 60m hurdles at the conference championships was also a school record and earned him Landmark Conference Second Team honors.
In addition to setting new records in the 4x200 and 60m hurdles, Chukwu set the new school standard in the 55m hurdles (8.20) during the indoor season at the George Mason University Patriot Games in January.
Heading into the outdoor season Chukwu continued his record-breaking ways. He set a new Goucher College record in the 110m hurdles with a time of 15.04 at the Messiah Invitational in early April. At the Landmark Conference Championships in May, he went on to take second in the event, earning All-Landmark Conference Second Team honors for the third time in 2016-17.
Following his first year of competition, Chukwu currently holds the top time in the 55m hurdles, the top seven times in the 60m hurdles and the top eight times in the 110m hurdles at Goucher.
"Every time I step up to the line I believe I'm going to break the record. It's something you always dream about growing up, and now that I have set records in college, I know I need to keep 'one-upping' myself," said Chukwu about his records. He continued, "I need to keep improving because my goal is to win a Landmark Conference Championship and qualify for nationals."
Chukwu is the first men's Landmark All-Conference honoree for Goucher since the outdoor 2012 season when three Gophers were named to the team.
The All-Goucher Team is selected by a panel of athletic administrators and represents the 10 most distinguished student-athletes and most outstanding coach during an academic year. The All-Goucher team was established in 2010-11 and is selected annually.
From June 2nd, 2017 until June 16th, 2017 Goucher will unveil one new member of the 2016-17 All-Goucher Team every weekday at 2:30 p.m. For a complete list of last year's 2015-16 All-Goucher Team, click here.
