TOWSON, Md. – Junior Jack Hodges (London, England) has been named to the All-Goucher First Team for the first time during his successful career at Goucher College.
Hodges, who was named to the All-Goucher Second Team last year, has been named to the First Team following a season where he went 13-10 in singles play and completed doubles play with an identical record. Hodges was the primary #1 singles player for the Gophers and paired up with senior Midori Fujitani (Tokyo, Japan) at #2 doubles. Fujitani was also named to the 2016-17 All-Goucher Team.
Hodges, who was primarily a #2 player prior to this year, went 11-10 at #1 singles and posted a 6-1 record in conference play. His only loss in conference came against Salikh Gilmutdinov from Drew- the 2017 Conference Player of the Year.
Hodges also came back from a 1-6 loss in the first set to Dean Polisena during the Landmark Conference Championship match to win the next two sets 6-2, 6-1 to seal Goucher's second consecutive Landmark Conference Championship and berth to the NCAA Men's Tennis Championship Tournament. Hodges was rewarded for his heroics during the match and was consequentially named the Landmark Conference Championship Most Valuable Player.
In doubles play, Hodges went 11-8 while paired with Fujitani and secured the Goucher College record for career team doubles wins (39) surpassing Seth Hoesman '16 and Joey Caracappa (31). Hodges also went 2-2 while not paired with Fujitani, including two wins with freshman Michael Herman (Prague, Czech Republic) – also a member of the 2016-17 All-Goucher Team.
Following the 2017 season, Hodges was named to the All-Landmark Conference First Team in singles play – his second such honor in two years. He was also recognized on the All-Landmark Conference Second Doubles Team with Fujitani. Since coming to Goucher in 2014, Hodges has been named to the All-Conference Singles First Team twice and Second Team once. He has also been designated to the Doubles Second Team twice and Doubles First Team once (2016).
The All-Goucher Team is selected by a panel of athletic administrators and represents the 10 most distinguished student-athletes and most outstanding coach during an academic year. The All-Goucher team was established in 2010-11 and is selected annually.
