Women's Lacrosse Earns IWLCA Zag Sports Academic Honor Squad Award
The Goucher College women’s lacrosse team was named a 2016-17 IWLCA Zag Sports Academic Honor Squad while four Gophers earned individual honors.
GRAND LAKE, Colo. – The Goucher College women's lacrosse team was named a 2016-17 IWLCA Zag Sports Academic Honor Squad while four Gophers earned individual honors.
The Goucher College women's lacrosse team that includes 16 student-athletes earned the award for the first time since the 2013-14 academic school year. The IWLCA has named 300 schools across Division I, II, III, and NAIA as IWLCA Zag Sports Academic Honor Squads for the 2016-17 academic year. To qualify for this prestigious honor, the women's lacrosse team must have posted a 3.0 or higher team GPA for the academic year.
"I am extremely proud of our team for this incredible accomplishment," said head coach Cat Thoreson. "While our young women work exceptionally hard on the field, they work even harder in the classroom. This award is proof of the standard of excellence that Goucher College women's lacrosse demands and that these young women tirelessly work to meet."
IWLCA also honors individuals and in order to be eligible for this honor, student-athletes must be a junior, senior, or graduate student and have earned a cumulative academic GPA of 3.50 or greater.
Four-year player Claire Lippay (Jenkintown, Pa./Jenkintown) was the sole senior for the Gophers earning the award. She was joined by juniors Rachel Grosso (Haworth, N.J./Northern Valley Regional), Elyse Pyle (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) and Maddie Hernandez (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington Central).
The IWLCA honored 531 student-athletes from 156 different institutions on the 2017 IWLCA Zag Sports Division III Academic Honor Roll.
