Goucher Athletics Announces All-Goucher Second Team
BALTIMORE, Md. – The Goucher College Athletics Department has announced the 2018-19 All-Goucher second team. Slade Dumas (men's tennis), Anais Gill (women's tennis), Christina Pevey (women's golf), Anise Williams (women's basketball) and Evan Yue (men's golf) have been named to the second team.
Dumas helped guide the Gophers men's tennis team to its fourth-straight Landmark Conference championship and trip to the NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Championship. The junior went 17-7 on the year including 6-0 in league play and posted a win at each of the Top-5 spots in the lineup including a 12-3 mark at No. 4 and 5 singles. In the circuit, he only gave up four games in 12 sets. The junior was named the Landmark Conference Men's Tennis Championships MVP after posting a singles and two doubles victories. Dumas, who was named to the All-Landmark Conference second team for singles, also earned the nod for doubles with his partner Omosesan Adebamgbe. The duo went 15-1 on the year including 6-0 in the league.
Gill racked up the honors for the women's tennis team, earning Landmark Conference Rookie of the Year, all-conference first team honors for singles and all-conference second-team recognition for doubles with teammate Mandile Mpofu. Gill held a 13-7 mark in singles and 5-2 in Landmark action. The freshman, who played all of her singles matches but one at No. 1 singles, started her collegiate career by winning her first seven matches and won five of her final six matches of the regular season. She had match point against fellow all-conference first-team selection Emma Angle in the Landmark Conference semifinals before her match was halted since Moravian had clinched the match. The freshman was 3-2 on the year against players that joined her on the all-conference team. Gill and Mpofu were 10-6 on the year as a tandem and 4-1 in conference matches.
Pevey earns her second-straight All-Goucher second-team recognition and is one of only two athletes to return to the team from 2017-18. The sophomore moved up four spots with her final round score of 84 to finish fifth at the Landmark Conference Women's Golf Championships to earn her second-straight All-Landmark Conference first-team honors. Pevey finished with six Top-10 finishes and three Top-5 finishes on the year including winning the Gettysburg Tri-Match in the fall and finishing tied for the tournament-low score at the Goucher Spring Invitational.
Just like the other freshman with the same first name, but spelled different, Williams collected some nice hardware by the conference after being named the Landmark Conference Rookie of the Year and nabbing a spot on the all-conference second team. Williams paced the Gophers and ranked third in the conference with 15.6 points per game while averaging 5.9 rebounds per game. The freshman also paced the circuit in steals per game (3.58) and steals (86) and ranked 15th in NCAA Division III in steals per game and 21st in steals. She scored double figures in 20 of her 24 games including four 20-point performances. The freshman also had four double-digit rebound performances and three double-doubles. In a 79-76 victory against Yeshiva, Williams registered a career-high 27 points and 13 rebounds. The freshman notched a steal in 23 of 24 games, at least three steals 15 times, five steals eight times and recorded a career-best nine thefts against Juniata College on January 16.
Yue rounds out the All-Goucher second team after finishing fifth at Landmark Conference Men's Golf Championships to help the Goucher men's golf team to its second-straight conference crown. The sophomore registered a 75 in the first round and a 76 in the second round to finish with a two-round score of 151. Yue finished in the Top-5 and Top-10 three times on the year. Along with his fifth-place standing at the conference championships, he placed third at the Goucher Spring Invitational. He is one of only three golfers on the team to compete in both the Landmark Conference Men's Golf Championships and the NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championships in the last two seasons.
The All-Goucher team is the 10 most distinguished student-athletes and most outstanding coach during an academic year selected by a committee. The All-Goucher team was established in 2010-11 and is selected annually. The All-Goucher Coach of the Year and the All-Goucher first team will also be announced this week.
