HALL OF FAME SPOTLIGHT: Rory Averett '12
Rory Averett '12, a native of Ivyland, Pennsylvania, is the all-time leading scorer in Goucher men's lacrosse history with 190 goals. He ranks second in career points with 236. A three-time Landmark All-Conference selection who earned First Team honors as a junior and senior, Averett was named a USILA honorable mention All-American as a senior after totaling 52 goals and 16 assists for 68 points. Over his four years, the Gophers posted a record of 53-17 and captured Landmark Conference championships in 2010 and 2012.
Averett and the Goucher Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2023 will be inducted on Friday, October 20 at 6 pm at Hyman Forum at the Sanford J. Ungar Athenaeum. We will be spotlighting each member as well as the 2013 equestrian team, this year's Team of Distinction, throughout the week.
How did you react when you learned that you had been selected to the Goucher Athletics Hall of Fame?
I was extremely excited. It's an honor to be recognized by the school and Athletic Department as a Hall of Famer. I'm very fortunate to be able to join many great athletes before me and also some of my closest friends from the team.
What are some of your top memories of your Goucher career, both on and off the field?
Winning the Conference Championship in 2010 and 2012- the 2012 one was my top memory though. Also, the friendships that I made, to this day I talk to guys daily.
Who are people who had an influence on you during your time at Goucher?
My Parents, Coach Hannan- Coach, Geoff Miller (AD), Nancy Hubbard- Business Management Professor
What will it mean to be back on campus?
I typically try to get back to a few games a year so I've been back a bunch of times, but never for a reason like this.
What advice would you give to current Goucher student athletes?
Time flies, cherish your time and memories.
What are you doing now?
I work for a start up company in sales.
