TOWSON, Md. - The Goucher College field hockey program (2-4, Landmark 0-0-0) defeated Randolph Macon (2-2) 3-2 at home on Saturday.
Goucher came out to an early lead with a goal by senior Olivia Dickert (Montville, N.J.) after she rebounded a saved shot.
The Gophers continued to control the pace of play, as sophomore Madison Resolme (San Diego, Calif.) found Dickert for her second goal of the evening. Dickert set a career high in both goals in a season (3) and goals in a game (2).
The Yellow Jackets would not end the half silently. First-year Claire Magill ripped a shot from the top of the arc off a penalty corner to bring the Yellow Jackets within one.
Goucher finished off the first half strong with another quick goal from junior Maya Belin (Baltimore, Md.), shooting through the five-hole before time expired.
At the end of the first half the Gophers outshot the Yellow Jackets 11-3.
With a lot of back-and-forth play, Randolph-Macon tallied another goal from first-year Georgia Drescher with 11:01 left to play in the second half.
The Gophers held their lead as the Yellow-Jackets rattled off a couple shots before time ran out.
Junior goalkeeper Quichey Johnson (Baltimore, Md.) saved seven out of the eight shots she faced for the Gophers.
The Gophers travel to Juanita College next week to play against the Eagles at 4:30 pm.
