Gophers Return to Their Winning Ways

IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Goucher College field hockey team (3-5, Landmark 0-1) snapped a two-game skid in a 5-2 win over Immaculata on the road Thursday evening.
The Gophers fell behind in the seventh minute when the Mighty Macs netted a goal via Layne Kennedy. However, senior Olivia Dickert (Montville, N.J.) wiped away the advantage with her fourth goal of the season in the 19th minute. She doubled her goal total with a goal only two minutes later on a penalty stroke.
Junior Maya Belin (Baltimore, Md.) and sophomore Meghan Oakes (Boothbay, Maine) gave Goucher some breathing room with back-to-back goals only 45 seconds apart. The Gophers held onto a 4-1 lead before allowing one more goal to Immaculata before the half.
Goucher took a 4-2 lead into intermission.
Dickert completed her first career hat trick on the night in the 44th minute when junior Jackie Juarez (Glendora, Calif.) dished a pass off the corner.
Goucher held an advantage in shots (17-8), shots on goal (13-7) and penalty corners (9-7).
Time in goal was split between Liz Zengel (Smithfield, Va.), Megan Wells (Wilbraham, Mass.) and Quichey Johnson (Baltimore, Md.). Johnson led the team with 3 saves in 23 minutes. Both Zengel and Wells added a save each.
The Gophers are back in action on Saturday when Susquehanna comes to Goucher for a showdown at 1 p.m. on Beldon Field.
