TOWSON, Md. - The Goucher College field hockey team (4-6, 1-2 Landmark) came out firing on all cylinders Saturday afternoon in their 9-0 victory over the Moravian College Greyhounds (2-11, Landmark, 1-2).
Senior Olivia Dickert (Montville, N.J.) opened up the scoring early in the game for the Gophers, scoring an unassisted tally just 1:47 into the game.
Junior Maya Belin (Baltimore, Md.) followed suit a minute later by scoring to put the Gophers up 2-0.
Sophomore Valerie Mendoza (San Diego, Ca.) scored late in the first half after she received a pass from senior Kristen Schlanko (Huntinton Beach, Ca.). This allowed the Gophers to head into halftime with a comfortable 3-0 lead over the Greyhounds.
Mendoza didn't waste much time adding another goal for the Gophers early in the second half. She received a pass from junior Jackie Juarez (Gelndora, Ca.) off of a penalty corner and shot a worm-burner from the top of the arc.
Sophomore Madison Resolme (San Diego, Ca.) made the score 5-0 after she carried the ball into shooting range and let one rip into the bottom left corner of the goal.
Dickert knotted her eighth goal of the season - her second on the day - after she made a beautiful one-timer over the goalkeeper off a pass from outside the arc by first-year Michaela Nelson (Frederick, Md.).
In the final 14 minutes of play, Goucher went on to score three more goals. First-year Ariana Hooper (Poway, Ca.), senior Emily Jewell (San Diego, Ca.), and sophomore Meghan Oakes (Boothbay, Me.) all found the back of the net allowing the Gophers to have their most productive offensive output all season with a final score of 9-0.
The Gophers outshot the Greyhounds 24-3. 7 different goals scorers were involved in a balanced Gopher attack on goal.
Goucher will face another Landmark Conference opponent in their next contest, Catholic University, next Wednesday at 7:00 pm on Beldon Field.
