Gophers Fall To Nationally-Ranked Cardinals
The Goucher College Field Hockey program (4-7, Landmark 1-3) fell to No. 12 ranked team in the nation, Catholic University (10-2, Landmark 4-0) 4-0 Wednesday night at Beldon Field.

TOWSON, Md. - The Goucher College Field Hockey program (4-7, Landmark 1-3) fell to No. 12 ranked team in the nation, Catholic University (10-2, Landmark 4-0) 4-0 Wednesday night at Beldon Field.
The Cardinals opened up the scoring for the game with a goal within the first five minutes of play. Sophomore Katie Anderson received a pass from senior Marisa Martinelli at the top of the arc and shot it into the left corner of the goal.
Goucher found some opportunities of their own shortly after. Senior Kristen Shklanko (Huntington Beach, Ca.) and junior Maya Belin (Baltimore, Md.) both took shots that went wide of the cage.
Catholic would score one more before the end of the half after sophomore Alexa Guittari rebounded a defensive save.
At the end of the first half, Catholic outshot Goucher 10-4.
At the beginning of the second half, Catholic moved the score to 3-0, after Anderson took a one-timer off a pass from first-year Meghan Shallow.
10 minutes later, first-year Grace Olson scored the final goal of the game for the Cardinals by bringing in the ball from outside the arc.
Senior Sarah Shklanko (Huntington Beach, Ca.) and senior Shannara Bauer (Bethlehem, Ct.) both made defensive saves for the Gophers.
Goucher's junior goalkeeper Quichey Johson (Baltimore, Md.) made 14 saves out of the 18 shots on goal.
The Gophers travel to Elizabethtown, Pa. for their next game to faceoff against the Blue Jays at 4 pm this coming Saturday.
