TOWSON, Md. - Goucher College field hockey head coach Megan Williams has announced her resignation, effective March 31, 2018.
Williams, who has been the Gophers' field hockey head coach for the last six seasons, as well as serving as an Assistant Athletic Director and Compliance Coordinator in the department, will take over as the Director of Athletics at the Rocky Hill School in Warwick, Rhode Island beginning in July.
"It certainly is bittersweet to be leaving Goucher but I am very confident that the field hockey program is poised to continue its success both on and off the field," said Williams. "There is an incredibly strong foundation and culture to be able to continue building upon. I will remain one of the biggest fans of this program and of the players that I am leaving behind."
Williams leaves Goucher as the winningest coach in field hockey program history, collecting 40 wins over the last six years (2012-2017). Before Williams arrived on campus, the Gophers had won only 21 games combined over the previous six seasons.
At Goucher, Williams coached two NFHCA Scholars of Distinction, a Landmark Conference Rookie of the Year, 10 All-Landmark Conference selections, and led the team to an NFHCA's Team Academic Award each season. She was named the 2016 Landmark Coach of the Year and also led the Gophers to their first-ever Landmark Conference Playoff spot in 2016 after winning eight matches.
Williams is a 2006 graduate of Bryn Mawr College who had served two seasons as the assistant field hockey coach at Virginia Wesleyan College before joining Goucher's coaching staff. Prior, she was the head field hockey coach at Calvert High School in Prince Frederick, Md.
In her four seasons at Calvert High School, her teams went 36-14-1 and she was recognized in 2009 as the Calvert County Coach of the Year, the Southern Maryland Athletic Conference Coach of the Year and the Washington Post All-Extra Coach of the Year.
Goucher College has already begun a national search to fill the field hockey head coaching position.
