All-Goucher Second Team Selection: Field Hockey’s Sarah Shklanko
The first 2017-18 All-Goucher Team Selection to be announced is a familiar face to the All-Goucher Team, as she earned a Second Team selection this year and last. That student-athlete is Sarah Shklanko (Huntington Beach, Calif) of the field hockey team.
The first 2017-18 All-Goucher Team Selection to be announced is a familiar face to the All-Goucher Team, as she earned a Second Team selection this year and last. That student-athlete is Sarah Shklanko (Huntington Beach, Calif.) of the field hockey team.
In 2017, Shklankoko ended a great career for the Gophers field hockey program by earning All-Landmark Conference First Team accolades at defender. With the All-Landmark First Team pick, Shklanko became just the second student-athlete to earn First Team honors since Goucher joined the Landmark Conference in 2007.
During the year, Shklanko started 15 matches on defense for the Gophers, making a team-best five defensive saves. She even got in on the act offensively on the year, scoring her lone goal of the campaign in a 5-0 win in Gophers' regular-season finale on Oct. 28 against Drew.
For her career, Shklanko started in all 48 games she played in on the Gophers backline, making seven career defensive saves. She also scored four goals and added an assist for a career-point total of nine.
Overall, Shklanko and the rest of the field hockey senior class helped lead the Gophers to the Landmark Conference playoffs in 2016 for the first time since 2007. The seniors also posted a four year combined record of 32-32, a 15-game improvement for the program in the four years prior to their arrival.
Shklanko, who earned a spot on the Landmark Conference's Academic Honor Roll this past fall for the third time, earned a degree from Goucher late last month in health science with a minor in public health.
The second All-Goucher Second Team selection will be announced on Tuesday at 12 p.m. For more on the All-Goucher Team, click here.
