Belin Nets Hat Trick, as Field Hockey Rolls Past Frostburg State, 4-1

With the win, the Gophers improved to 3-3 overall, while Frostburg dropped to 0-5 overall with the defeat.
The scoring started right away for the Gophers in the victory, as Belin tallied her first goal of the night 31 seconds into the match. The unassisted score gave Goucher the early 1-0 edge on Frostburg.
In the 12th minute, Goucher increased their lead to 2-0, as sophomore Caroline Doll (York, Pa.) scored her first career goal off an assist from junior Valerie Mendoza (San Diego, Calif.). Frostburg, however, ended the half with a goal of their own in the 20th minute, as Goucher went into halftime up 2-1.
The 2-1 lead held for the Gophers for the first 22 minutes of the second half, until the 58th minute when Belin shut the door on Frostburg State with an unassisted goal to make it a 3-1 match. Belin completed her hat trick with another unassisted score in the 68th minute, giving Goucher the three-score victory on the road.
Overall on the night, Goucher outshot Frostburg, 16-8, and had a 9-7 edge on penalty corners. In net, first-year Devin Brashear (Escondido, Calif.) had a good night in between the pipes, making six saves to take the victory.
The Goucher College field hockey team returns to action on Saturday, as they open Landmark Conference play for the year at Drew. Action gets underway at 1 p.m.
