TOWSON, Md. - A goal by Juniata's Lindsay Scholten in the 62nd minute was the difference, as the Goucher College field hockey team fell to the visiting Eagles, 1-0, on Saturday in Landmark Conference action at Beldon Field.
With the defeat, the Gophers fell to 6-5 overall and 1-2 in the Landmark Conference, while Juniata improved to 5-4 and 2-1 in the Landmark with the win.
In the game, defense was the name of the game throughout, as the teams combined to only fire 10 total shots in 70 minutes of action (six for Juniata and four for Goucher).
But, Juniata cashed in on a late scoring chance off a penalty corner, as Scholten's goal was the difference in the contest.
In between the pipes, Goucher first-year goalie Devin Brashear (Escondido, Calif.) kept the Gophers in it all match after making five saves. Offensively, senior Maya Belin (Baltimore, Md.) fired three shots on the day, all of which were on goal, to lead the way.
The Goucher College field hockey team returns to action on Wednesday, as they continue Landmark Conference play at Catholic. The match gets underway at 7 p.m.
