Field Hockey Can’t Overcome Early Deficit, Falls at Susquehanna, 3-1

With the loss, Goucher fell to 6-7 overall and 1-4 in the Landmark Conference, while Susquehanna improved to 7-7 and 3-2 in Landmark play with the win.
In the opening frame of the contest, Susquehanna attacked early and often on Goucher, finishing the half outshooting the Goucher by a 19-6 margin. The River Hawks were able to score goals in the 20th and 23rd minutes to go up, 2-0, on Goucher.
Despite only having six shots in the first half, four of Goucher's attempts were on goal, only to be saved, as they went into the locker room for intermission down by two goals.
To open the second half, the Gophers quickly sliced the Susquehanna lead in half.
In the 45th minute, senior Maya Belin (Baltimore, Md.) scored an unassisted goal to make it a 2-1 match. For Belin, it was her 11th goal of the 2018 season, as well.
But, the one-goal lead for Susquehanna did not last long, as the River Hawks scored in the 47th minute to go back up two scores. Despite firing nine shots in the second half, all of which were on goal, the Gophers were unable to find the back of the cage again in the match, falling by two.
Overall, Susquehanna outshot Goucher, 27-15, in the contest, while holding an 11-5 edge on penalty corners. In net, first-year goalie Devin Brashear (Escondido, Calif.) made eight saves in a losing effort, while Susquehanna goalie Veronica Green stopped 11 shots in the win.
The Goucher College field hockey team returns to action on Saturday, October 20, as they host Elizabethtown in the teams Landmark Conference regular-season home finale. The game, which will also serve as the programs Senior Day, begins at 1 p.m.
