BALTIMORE, Md. – The Goucher College field hockey team opened the season with a non-conference loss to St. Mary's College of Maryland on Friday.
Gillian Sickler (Alexandria, Va./Potomac) made two saves in the final 30 minutes of the match while giving up two goals. Devin Brashear (Escondido, Calif./San Pasqual) allowed two goals in the first 30 minutes and took the loss.
Freshman Amita Chatterjee (Silver Spring, Md./Wheaton) made her collegiate debut in the starting lineup while Maria Campbell (Cumberland, Maine/Greely) came off the bench for her first college action.
The Seahawks scored two goals in each half to come away with a 4-0 decision.
It marked the third-straight season the two teams have tangled in the season opener and the second time in that span at Beldon Field.
The match also was the first collegiate match for both teams that was only 60 minutes and four quarters. Previously the matches were two halves and 35 minutes each for a total of 70 minutes.
Goucher returns to action on Sunday at home against Transylvania. Match time is 12 p.m.
