Mikles Posts Hat Trick, Gophers Move to 2-0

TOWSON, Md. - Junior Zoe Mikles recorded the first hat trick by a Goucher College field hockey player in nearly two years as she scored all three goals in the Gophers' 3-1 win over Meredith College at Beldon Field Monday afternoon.  The Gophers sit 2-0 for the first time since 2014.

• Goucher (2-0) generated a penalty corner in the second minute of the game that saw a shot by Isa Schenk get saved by Meredith (0-2) goalie Shae-Lynn Henderson.
• Henderson turned aside three more shots in a span of 1:18 in the fifth minute.
• Goucher outshot the Avenging Angels 12-4 in the opening frame, with Henderson maing eight stops.
• Gopher goalie Katie Bloom had three saves of her own.

• Mikles scored her first goal 1:29 into the second as she weaved past two Meredith defenders and beat Henderson 1v1.
• Just past the 19-minute mark, Mikles struck again, as she tipped a shot from the top of the circle by Kaitlyn Bucci that trickled past the goal line to make it 2-0.
• Bloom made three saves with around five minutes left to keep Meredith off the board and Goucher went into halftime with a 2-0 lead.

• Goucher had two shots on goal in the first minute of the second half that were stopped by Henderson.
• The Avenging Angels got on the board five minutes in as Megan Ingenito scored off a penalty corner.
• Meredith generated five corners in the remainder of the third but was unable to come up with the equalizer.

• Mikles completed her hat trick three minutes into the final frame.
• An initial shot by Shenck was stopped by Henderson, before Mikles cleaned up the rebound to make it 3-1.
• Goucher put five more shots on goal the remainder of the game, with all five turned aside by Henderson, while Bloom made a pair of saves.

• Goucher outshot Meredith 32-11, with the Avenging Angels holding a 13-9 lead in penalty corners.
• Henderson made 18 saves for Meredith, while Bloom stopped nine shots.
• Mikles' hat trick was the first by a Goucher player since Amita Chatterjee scored three goals against Notre Dame Maryland on October 5, 2021.
• Goucher's 2-0 start is its best since 2014.
• Bucci led the Gophers with nine shots.

• Goucher remains at home Wednesday, hosting Eastern Mennonite in a 4 pm contest at Beldon Field.
