Gophers Post Second Straight Shutout, Record First Landmark Win of 2023

TOWSON, Md. - Goucher College got goals from three different players, including the first collegiate goal for first year Madison Usher, as it posted a 3-0 Landmark Conference field hockey victory over Lycoming College Sunday afternoon at Beldon Field.
- Goucher (6-1, 1-1 Landmark) got its first shot a minute in as a shot by Angelena Holmes was saved in close by Lycoming (3-4, 0-2) goalie Isabella Bobe.
- The Gophers had a penalty corner with 4:31 remaining in the opening frame.
- Bobe made a save on a Kaitlyn Bucci shot midway through the period.
- Another Bucci shot was blocked with three minutes remaining.
- The Warriors generated a penalty corner with 2:28 left and had a shot go wide just over a minute later.
- Isa Schenk pushed a shot wide for the Gophers in the final seconds of the half.
- Goucher took a 1-0 lead just over five minutes into the second half.
- A shot by Schenk at the top of the arc was tipped up by Rylie Belauskas and past Bobe for her first goal of the season.
- Just 29 seconds later, Usher's tally off another Schenk assist put the hosts in front 2-0.
- A minute later, Goucher goalie Katie Bloom made back-to-back saves on Lyco's Loghan Shelly.
- Goucher was awarded a penalty stroke 4:47 into the final quarter, which Daryn Carter converted to make it 3-0.
- Bloom recorded four saves in the final frame as Lycoming generated five penaty corners in the final five minutes.
- Goucher held a 13-10 shot advantage, with the Warriors generating a 10-3 lead in penalty corners.
- Bloom registered seven saves for her second consecutive shutout and third of the season, while Bobe recorded four stops.
- Bucci led the Gophers with six shots.
- Goucher picked up its first Landmark Conference victory since a 2-0 win over Drew on September 28, 2019.
- Bloom currently leads the Landmark in goals against average (0.69) and save percentage (.884).
- Goucher steps out of conference play Tuesday evening, traveling to Hood for a 6 pm contest.
