Fourth Quarter Tally Pushes Eagles Past Gophers

TOWSON, Md. - Visiting Juniata College broke a 1-1 tie with just over 10 minutes remaining as it posted a 2-1 Landmark Conference field hockey victory over Goucher College at Beldon Field Saturday afternoon.
- Juniata (3-6, 2-1 Landmark) had a pair of shots on goal in the final three minutes of the quarter.
- Both shots were turned away by Goucher (6-5, 1-2) goalie Katie Bloom.
- The Eagles also generated three penalty corners in the frame.
- Kaitlyn Bucci sent a shot wide for the Gophers just over two minutes into the second.
- Midway through the period, Bucci had a shot saved, followed by three penalty corners.
- Juniata had a corner with two minutes remaining, but the game remained scoreless at halftime.
- Goucher had two penalty corners three minutes into the second half.
- Juniata took a 1-0 lead in the 38th minute with Caitlin Steffie scoring on an assist by Tess Ledeboer.
- Bloom made a save on a Sydney Witter shot just over a minute later.
- With 2:42 remaining in the third, Bucci scored her eighth goal of the season, with Annie Bennett assisting, to the the game 1-1.
- Juniata applied early pressure with seven penalty corners in the first five minutes of the fourth.
- Bloom made three saves during that period.
- Kaylyn Nierzwicki scored off a penalty corner with 10:28 remaining, with Kaylyn Walters assisting.

- With just over a minute to go Bucci put a shot on goal that Juniata goalie Amanda Puza saved.
- Goucher earned one final penalty corner with under a second remaining, but a shot from the top of the circle by Bucci went wide.
- Juniata held a 12-11 edge in shots, with the Eagles taking 15 penalty corners to the Gophers' nine. Nine of those 15 came in the final 15 minutes.
- Bloom made nine saves for Goucher, with Puza recording four saves.
- Bloom recorded the 200th save of her career.
- Bucci had nine of Goucher's 11 shots, with Bennett and Wrenn Harney recording the others.
- Bucci's eight goals are the most by a Goucher player since Ari Hooper had 10 goals in 2019.
