Mighty Macs Hold Off Gophers

TOWSON, Md. - Visiting Immaculata University scored twice in the first half and held off Goucher College for a 2-1 non-conference field hockey victory Tuesday evening at Beldon Field.
- Emilyn Givens had the first shot of the game for Immaculata (5-7) just over eight minutes in, which was saved by Goucher (6-6) goalie Katie Bloom.
- Givens scored just over 30 seconds later to put the Mighty Macs in front 1-0.
- The Gophers had a pair of penalty corners just past the 10-minute mark, with the second resulting in a shot by Kaitlyn Bucci that was saved by IU goalie Julia Levase.
- Immaculata made it 2-0 4:25 into the second quarter as Gabrielle O'Brien scored.
- Julia Blondell had back-to-back shots saved by Levase with four minutes left in the half.
- Charlotte Bloom had a pair of shots in the final seconds of the half, with one saved by Levase.
- Goucher had four shots in the first three minutes of the third, with Jillian Vandenbraak making a pair of defensive saves.
- Katie Bloom had a save seven minutes in.
- With four minutes left in the frame, on a penalty corner, Zoe Mikles put back her own initial shot that was saved to cut the lead to 2-1.
- Katie Bloom made a pair of saves in the first two minutes of the final frame.
- Bucci had back-to-back shots with nine minutes left, with one saved and one blocked.
- Goucher generated three penalty corners in the final 30 seconds, with Annie Bennett sending a shot wide on the final corner of the night.
