League-Leading Catholic Tops Gophers 3-1

WASHINGTON, D.C. - League-leading Catholic University remained unbeaten in the Landmark Conference with a 3-1 win over Goucher College at Cardinal Stadium in field hockey action Tuesday evening.  Goucher's Kaitlyn Bucci scored her 11th goal of the season in defeat.

• Catholic (9-7, 7-0 Landmark) scored off a penalty corner 2:49 into the game on a Molly Romano goal.
• Three minutes later, Bucci had Goucher's (6-10, 1-6) first shot of the game.
• Gopher goalie Katie Bloom made three saves in a 27-second span midway through the quarter.
• The Cardinals made it 2-0 on a Nikki Micciche tally with 1:32 left in the period.

• Tess Hake scored off a rebound of her initial shot that was blocked 6:17 before halftime.
• Bucci had a shot with two minutes left that was saved by Cardinal goalie Ella Bowman.
• Bloom made a save in the final seconds of the half.

• Bloom made a pair of saves in the first four minutes of the period.
• Annie Bennett had a shot saved by Bowman with just under four minutes on the clock.
• The Gophers generated a pair of penalty corners in the next minute.

• Goucher relief goalie Mimi Taff made seven saves in the fourth quarter.
• Bucci scored with 4:12 remaining with a quick shot off the touch of the goalie.

• Catholic took 33 shots to Goucher's four, and registered 17 penalty corners with the Gophers mustering two.
• Bloom made nine saves over the first three quarters, with Taff recording seven stops in the final frame.
• Bowman recorded a pair of saves.
• Bucci's 11th goal of the season gives her the most goals by a Goucher player since Maya Belin had 12 goals in 2018. Her 11 goals are tied for second in the Landmark Conference.
• Goucher played its final road contest of the season.

• The Gophers are home for their final two home games, including Saturday when they host Elizabethtown at 1 pm.
• Saturday is Senior Day for Goucher.
